Vintage 2018 arrived early as expected after an early budburst in Spring.
The growing season this vintage can be compared to 2003 in terms of the lack of rainfall. We received below average rainfall of approximately 6 inches between June 2017 and January 2018 and above average temperatures, resulting in a slightly earlier vintage.
“The long, dry season and very low humidity resulted in virtually zero disease pressure. The winemakers had no pressure as to when to pick, and all of the fruit has been in optimal condition.” said Liz Riley from Vitibit.
We have had 2 warm weeks and 2 really cool ones with incredible cool nights and mornings. The cool nights have retained our acid, providing the structure that goes with the ripe fruit at lower levels of sugar.
Nightingale Wines EST 1994 by Paul Nightingale and his wife Gail Nightingale quickly turned this patch of vacant land into one of the finest Vineyards in the Hunter Valley with the best view in the Valley. Paul and Gail eventually sold the Vineyard to Fortune Plus Investment Group owned by Katherine and Kristjan Geering who have continued building the success of Nightingale Wines and continue to produce some of the best wines in Australia.
